haiti > This is Sam wading out to the boat at the national park on the North coast of the D.R. He was getting the empty gas tank for the guide who we drove back to town to buy gas for the boat so we could see the manatees. There are supposed to be 29 manatees that are protected in the freshwater inlet, but the clouds were out and the guide said they probably went out to sea for the day since it was cooler than normal. It was a nice boatride, but we never saw the manatees - maybe next time.

haiti > This is a bottle of President beer and you find them everywhere you go in the D.R. We were eating at a restaurant in Playa Rusio, but there was no electricity. They gave us light by putting a candle in the top of the President beer bottle and the plastic cup kept the sea breeze from extinguishing the flame - I guess it was a sort of globe for the candle.

haiti > This is the site where Christopher Columbus had his home in La Isabella, which was the first colonized city by the explorers in the new world. It is along the North coast of the D.R. West of Puerta Plata.

haiti > A recent picture of us at the ballet

haiti > This is three of the Dominican pastors from Santiago who were at our house for a going away party.

haiti > This is our choir of angels minus Gabriel. Their robes were made a few years ago as baptismal robes a group of ladies from West Texas, but they double as angel robes each year at Christmas.

haiti > Special music "Yon Bel Nouvel" (one of our story songs about the birth of Jesus) sung by Emmanuelo, Delores, Phael, and Anna.

haiti > The wise men presenting present. Baby Jesus was played by Anna's doll "John the Baptist" who is wearing a knitted cap made by volunteer ladies from Tennessee.
